GANZ, The Guitar Association of New Zealand.

Great big name, but really a group of Auckland people from different backgrounds and ages who meet regularly to play, to learn at workshops, host guitar related concerts and to celebrate all things Guitar. We have friends and supporters from all over the world but the core group is based in Auckland at the Ponsonby Cruising Club and we meet for a Jam every Wednesday night for most of the year.

The club began as a loose gathering of friends on a monthly basis to share guitar licks and to jam acoustically. These early gatherings were at group members houses for a couple of years and then became established as a Club in 1996. Since 2000 we have been fortunate to have the use of the Pons for Clubnights on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, Feb. to December and to have workshops, weekly jams and other stuff as the mood takes us.

Most of our current members are working in non-music professions but are keen to practice and improve their skills as part of a guitar group. All people are welcome and our membership encompasses most ages and both genders. We all have a love of guitar music and musicians in common and have members and guest artists of all genres.

If you have a guitar, you qualify for membership and if you have great guitar skills we are always looking for people to stretch our abilities. We have a weakness in acoustic and fingerstyle activities at present and would welcome new acoustic players to strengthen our base.
